The Ravensara is a Madagascar endemic genus of trees and shrubs flowering plants belonging to the family Lauraceae. Ravensare species produce Essential Oils from their bark, their leaves and their fruit. The genus is composed of species native to central and eastern Madagascar. The best known species of Ravensara is Ravensara aromatica. The essential oil extracted from its leaves is used for its medicinal properties. In Madagascar this genus of trees are commonly called Hazomanitra, tree that smells.

Not to be confused with Ravintsara oil which comes from the botanical Cinnamomum camphora. Ravensara is a completely different oil both chemically and aromatically. It has a spicy, herbal aroma whereas the RaVINTsara smells very reminiscent of ecalyptus globulus because of the high 1,8-cineole content. By contrast, RaVENsara has very little 1,8-cineole.

This oil has a spicy herbaceous scent.



Dimensions of Ravensara:

Strongly anti-viral and anti-infectious. Indicated for viral infections including Epstein-Barr/chronic fatigue syndrome, shingles, mono and hepatitis. Also helpful for insomnia.

Traditional Uses: Strongly anti-infectious, antiseptic, antiviral, antiasthmatic, antibacterial, antispasmodic, antitussive, appears antiallergenic, analgesic, carminative, diuretic, expectorant, immune stimulant, neurotonic, energizing- strong CNS stimulant.

Skin: cuts, infections, wounds, dramatic results in herpes, zona (shingles)

Respiratory: asthma, anti-infectious for flu, bronchitis, coughs, colds with other cineole rich oils; eases whooping cough, allergies, laryngitis, congestion of respiratory tract.

Muscular/Skeletal: neuro-muscular problems; aids muscular & physical fatigue; eases joint pain (with thyme linalool), and acute rheumatoid pain; aids cervical-dorsal arthritis.
