Litsea is also known as May Chang. A member of the Laurel family, the small tree is common throughout Asia. Although its fragrant properties were widely known for centuries and was traditionally used to flavor food and beverages, it wasn't steam distilled until about 60 years ago. Since then it has become popular in aromatherapy and is sometimes used in place of Lemongrass.
This oil has sweet lemony high notes, due to a high citral content, and no musty overtones. It's wonderful in cleaning products adding a fresh, crisp citrus scent.
